Avtomatika-Vektor has commissioned a Mendes Maquinas sawmill line at an enterprise in the Republic of Karelia. This is the first sawmill line from a Brazilian machinery manufacturer to be installed in Russia.
A key aspect of the project involved developing software for both the programmable logic controller (PLC) and the personal computer (PC).
Much of the equipment used in the project was new to our team: while our specialists had previously worked with Siemens PLCs, the other components - Murr distributed I/O stations, Schneider Electric frequency converters, Kollmorgen servo drives, and Hydac sensors with an IO-Link interface - were being implemented for the first time.
Extensive experience with functionally and architecturally similar solutions allowed the team to quickly master the new components, configure them correctly, and complete commissioning within the scheduled timeframe.
The control system we developed addresses several key objectives. It ensures reliable, consistent operation of the sawmill equipment at maximum capacity, following a predefined algorithm, and allows the automatic reconfiguration of sawing machinery to accommodate different raw material dimensions. Operators have access to a user-friendly interface for monitoring the production process and making real-time adjustments to system settings.
The equipment's operation is automatically monitored: the system diagnoses all components and generates error messages. Furthermore, the software produces reports on production line performance and downtime. The entire control system is tailored to the specific requirements of the Russian manufacturing environment.
This project has once again confirmed our team’s high level of expertise in commissioning and integrating complex sawmill equipment.
